Happy Gilmore 2: Eminem’s ‘Acting’ Might Be the Real Hole-in-One—Just Not in a Good Way

If there’s one thing I learned from Happy Gilmore 2, it’s that some people need to stick to their lane. For instance, Eminem should really keep his acting career on ice. I’m not here to trash the guy—he’s a legend in the rap game—but let’s just say his role in this film could be best described as “sub par” (pun absolutely intended).

While the sequel brought back all the nostalgic, laugh-out-loud moments we love from the original, there was something… off about Eminem’s performance as Happy’s new heckler, the son of the infamous “Jackass!” shouting Donald. I get it, he’s been in a couple of movies before, but man, his acting here was like a slice off the tee—wild, awkward, and completely out of bounds.

Look, it’s hard not to admire Em for stepping outside his comfort zone and taking on a role that really leans into the absurdity of Happy Gilmore’s world. But if you’re expecting a nuanced, mind-blowing performance, let’s just say you’d have better luck finding that at a rap battle than on a golf course. It felt like he was reading from a script while simultaneously trying to maintain his “I’m a tough guy” persona. Spoiler alert: it didn’t quite land.

Honestly, there were times when his delivery felt more like an outtake from 8 Mile than an actual golf comedy. It’s almost as if he’s channeling the intensity of a rap battle… but in the middle of a comedy that relies on over-the-top physical humor. The man has passion, but sometimes passion can just miss the mark when you’re trying to pull off lines like, “in the great Sizzler in the sky” It was… cringe-worthy.

To be fair, Happy Gilmore 2 didn’t rely solely on Em’s brief acting chops (or lack thereof). The real comedy came from Happy’s usual antics and the classic cameos. Adam Sandler continues to charm as the lovable, crude, and occasionally clueless Happy, and the supporting cast (looking at you, Shooter McGavin) was enough to keep the nostalgia rolling.

But back to the rap star-turned-actor: if I’ve learned anything, it’s that Eminem’s real talent is in mic drops. Perhaps it’s time for him to hang up the acting shoes (and boonie hat) and focus on what he does best. Because as much as I wanted to love him in this flick, his performance was about as smooth as a golf ball ricocheting off a tree.

So, if you’re heading into Happy Gilmore 2 expecting a killer cameo from Eminem, you’re watching the movie for all the wrong reasons. Sure, it’s cool to see him on screen, but don’t get your hopes up for anything more than a glorified “Hey, look, it’s Eminem” moment. Trust me, if you’re expecting a masterclass in acting, you’re gonna be disappointed—he’s got more of a “punchline” delivery than a “scene-stealing” one.
